The Perfect Night Part 2

*Bonus post as mentioned yesterday!! Have a fantastic weekend readers, and if you are in the States and celebrating Thanksgiving I hope you all have a lovely time with friends, family and food! :)

As soon as we made it up the stairs to Matt’s bedroom we couldn’t keep our hands off of each other. He guided me to the bed while still kissing me, and I lay on my back so he was on top of me.

He looked down at me and just smirked.

“What?” I asked playfully.

“Nothing…you are just so unbelievably sexy and you don’t even know it” He said while continuing to smile at me.

I started undoing the zipper on Matt’s jeans as he continued kissing my neck and rubbing me over my pants. I reached for his hardness and started stroking him as he pulled my pants down and continued touching me.

I was so turned on and the fact that we hadn’t really done much other than making out was like a huge build to the moment. Matt started moving his mouth down and continued a trail of kisses until his head made it down between my legs. Within a few minutes of him moving his tongue around and inserting a finger, I felt like I was going to explode. Just before I came he entered me with such intensity that I moaned.

He started pumping and I felt my orgasm build up again and I came quickly. I was mid-orgasm when Matt grabbed a pillow from his bed and put it under my hips to elevate me. He continued to thrust and his breathing sped up. After another push he came too and gripped me tightly.

Our bodies lay still for a moment with him still on top of me before I finally said, “Oh my god. That was worth the wait”.

He rolled over and grabbed my chin and kissed me sweetly on the lips.

“I’d say so” he replied.

We lay there wrapped in each other and I realized how comforting it was just lying with Matt. I had never been a big cuddler with other guys I’ve dated but something about Matt just made me crave his touch.

“So, Miss. Parker,” Matt said as he sat up and propped himself against the headboard.

I just raised my eyebrows for him to elaborate.

“Not to get all serious, and I know we haven’t really talked about this, but I want you to know I’m not seeing anyone else,” He looked kind of nervous but continued, “I don’t know if you are but I’m not really one to sleep with someone I’m not exclusive with…”

I started doing a mental happy dance as I clued in to what he was getting at.

“Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?” I said while grinning and looking up at him.

“I think I would like that” he replied.

“So would I” I said back.

He kissed my cheek and hugged me tightly and I realized my eyes were starting to weigh down and I needed some sleep.

“Alright if I stay up any longer I won’t be a functioning human tomorrow” I said with a giggle.

“Well, then let’s get some rest missy” Matt said while getting up to put a pair of boxers on and handed me an oversized t-shirt of his to sleep in.

Luckily, I always have a travel sized toothbrush and toothpaste in my purse (a little OCD but I brush my teeth a lot and it’s come in handy) so I got up to brush my teeth and face before bed.

When I was walking back in the room, Matt was lying back in bed and just looked at me from top to bottom.

“I could get used to that picture” He said with a big smile on his face.

“What, you mean me with no make up on?” I said jokingly as I climbed back into bed.

“NO I mean YOU wearing nothing but my shirt” he said as he positioned himself to spoon me, “but that too, your beautiful whether or not you have a speck of make up on.”

“You’re too sweet” I replied.

We kissed goodnight and I drifted off into one of the best sleeps I ever had.

When I woke up the next morning I rolled over to see the bed was empty next to me. Assuming he was downstairs making coffee, I threw on my clothes from the day before and made my way down.

I looked all around the main floor and didn’t hear or see anything so I called out “Matt?”

Nothing.

I looked out the front window and saw his truck was gone. Wtf? I thought.

I went back upstairs to get my phone and just as I was coming down the stairs and pulling up his name to call him, I heard the keys in the door start to unlock and in he walked.

“Sorry I ducked out,” he started as he set his keys on the table “I just know you have to get back for class and I didn’t want you going on an empty stomach.” He said as he kissed me on the lips and handed me a bright pink smoothie and something wrapped in parchment paper.

“You’re so sweet, I thought maybe I scared you away” I said coyly.

“Do you really think I’d high tail it out of my own house after asking you to be my girlfriend?” He asked with a mock-hurt look on his face.

I giggled, “I didn’t know! I just woke up and you were gone. But thank you, smoothies are my favourite breakfast” I said, sticking a straw into the thick, fruity concoction.

“Oh my gosh, where did you get this? It’s so good!” I exclaimed.

Matt laughed while putting a straw into his own, “This little bakery up the road, its run by an older Scottish couple. I’ve gone quite a few times since moving here, they make everything from scratch and are so hilarious to watch banter back and forth when you go in” He said, laughing at the thought.

“Well, they know how to make a good smoothie,” I said as I started unwrapping the parchment paper.

It was 2 croissants but they looked different than any one I had ever had.

“Hmm, what are these?” I asked.

“Those, my dear, are the best croissants you will ever taste.” He said, grabbing 2 plates out of the cabinet.

I sat down at the kitchen table, drinking my smoothie while he warmed up the croissants in the microwave.

When I tasted it, I knew instantly he was right. It was hands down the best croissant I had eaten, probably the best thing I had had from a bakery.

It was stuffed with some sort of ham and cheese mixture and then glazed on top; I inhaled mine in seconds.

After breakfast, Matt dropped me back at the apartment so I could shower and change before class.

We pulled up and after I took my seat belt off Matt put his hand over mine and said, “You have no idea how happy it makes me that I get to officially call you my girlfriend” and leaned in and kissed me.

I smiled, “It makes me pretty happy to call you my boyfriend.”

I kissed him once more before getting out of his truck. I walked into my apartment in one of the best moods I’d been in a long time.

The Perfect Night

*Author's note: Hey lovely readers!!! This is a longer one and I even had to cut it down. SO I think I will try and get you a bonus post either tomorrow or Saturday, more likely tomorrow so be sure to check back, and thank you all for reading!*

Once I got back after seeing Katelyn, I spent the entire afternoon catching up on the work I missed. Even though it was only 2 days of lectures that I missed, it made a big difference especially with mid-terms coming up.

I needed a break from staring at my textbook so I grabbed my phone and aimlessly scrolled through Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. When I got to Facebook, I saw that I had a friend request from a Kim O’Donnell. I didn’t even need to read her last name to know which Kim it already was. What was she playing at? I was seriously confused. I didn’t know if she was trying to snoop around and creep on me or if it was part of her whole “looking like she’s being nice while really being a sneaky bitch” act.

I didn’t need her snooping around my personal life, so I didn’t do anything with the friend request. That way I can just say I haven’t been on Facebook if I have the unfortunate luck of seeing her again and she brings it up.

I texted Matt to make sure we were still on for dinner and possible costume shopping and he replied right away.

M: You bet! Does this mean I get to see you model some of those sexy costumes?

I smiled and felt my cheeks warm at his response.

I replied, You’ll just have to wait and see ;)

Right after, I sent a text to Chloe asking if she wanted to do dinner Friday. I hadn’t seen her since the night that we all went out to the bar and I needed some Chloe time.

C: Friday sounds great! We can do wine and cheese night at my place?

S: Perfect! We will figure out a time later, see you then! :)

Before I knew it, it was already 6 pm and Matt texted to say he was pulling up.

I made my way downstairs and outside where I saw him standing outside of his truck, holding a bouquet of white lilies, which happen to be my favourite (even though my mom told me they’re apparently “funeral flowers”).

“Oh my gosh these are beautiful!” I gushed, “What’s the occasion?” I asked while smelling the flowers.

“No occasion, I just figured you had a rough couple of days and wanted to pamper you a little” He said as he smiled and pulled me in for a kiss.

He smelled so good, a mixture between a fresh shower and his cologne and I held onto our kiss as long as I could.

“Thank you” I said smiling at him. “That was really sweet to do.”

We spent most of our drive to the mall talking ab out the last few days, me filling Matt in on everything that happened and him listening patiently.

“You guys did the right thing and it’s great that she agreed to go to treatment, I’m sorry you had to see your best friend go through that” He said as he reached over and squeezed my hand.

I just smiled back and wanted to change the subject before I got emotional over everything. We parked and started walking towards the mall entrance.

“So, what did you get up to the last couple of days?” I asked as we parked.

“Oh not too much just caught up on some marking for one of Stark’s other classes and finished up an essay of my own.”

“I don’t envy you, doing your graduate and working as a T.A must get exhausting!” I replied.

He chuckled, “Yeah, it can get to be a bit much but the T.A thing isn’t full time I’m only working with one prof and she’s pretty good about keeping the workload fair”

We only spent about an hour at the mall, looking at different costumes and trying to think of ideas that we could do for either a couples or a foursome theme.

One possible option was going as a nurse and doctor. The minute I tried on the nurse’s costume, Matt’s eyes bulged out. “Good God, if you wear that I’m gunna have to keep you by my side the entire night so another guy doesn’t try and pick you up!” He said as he looked me up and down.

“I wouldn’t do that to you, doctor” I said playfully.

He raised an eyebrow and smirked. That look alone made me want to jump his bones right away. He was able to pull off that cheeky bad boy grin without being a douche bag,

We left the mall with some ideas that I would run by Aleah to see if she had any thoughts.

As we were driving through the main area that had most of the restaurants my friends and I go to, it occurred to me that I had forgotten to ask what he wanted to do for food. “What do you want to do for dinner? I think The Cat and Fiddle has wing night tonight?” I suggested.

“Actually, I had something else in mind.” He said with a slight smile as he kept his eyes on the road.

“Hmm, and what would that be” I asked.

“You’ll just have to see!” He quipped back.

“Well, as long as there’s food involved. You haven’t seen my hangry side, it’s not pretty” I said with a laugh.

About 10 minutes later we pulled up to his house. I didn’t even realize it until we were there because the other time I had been it was dark outside and I wasn’t the one driving, and I usually only remember directions if I myself have driven there, multiple times. My friends call it being “directionally challenged.”

I was assuming he just wanted to order in at his place, which I was totally okay with but when we walked in, the whole house had an amazing aroma, as if he had been cooking there all day.

“Okay, are you going to tell me now?” I said as he shut the front door behind me.

“I thought I would cook for us tonight instead of going out, I get sick of restaurants pretty fast” He explained, “I did the sides already so basically just have to pop it in the oven and fire up the BBQ. You okay with steak? If not, I also have chicken, salmon, or shrimp I could cook?”

“I LOVE steak! Thank you for this, this is really sweet” I said sincerely as I wrapped my hands around his neck and kissed him.

He started walking me back until my back was against the fridge, and his hand was sliding up the back of my shirt. He kissed my neck and it instantly sent chills through my whole body. He finally pulled away and smiled, “I better get that BBQ started or we’ll never eat.”

I bit my lip and grinned at him, “You sure know what you’re doing.” I said, meaning it in more than one way.

I heard him laugh from behind the fridge where he was pulling out the steak and a veggie and dip platter he had put together for us to snack on before dinner.

After Matt threw the steaks on the BBQ and some sort of side dish he wouldn’t tell me about in the oven, he poured us each a glass of red wine and we settled on to the kitchen chairs.

Once the room started filling with the smell of what was in the oven I couldn’t help but take a peak while he was outside checking the steak. I still couldn’t really tell because it was covered with a lid but it smelled amazing and definitely not calorie friendly, but I didn’t care I was starving and wanted to devour whatever it was.

Everything had finished at the same time – he had cooked us both a beautiful steak, grilled corn on the cob, a big mixed salad and the mystery side, which he told me was “potatoes au gratin” – a dish of creamy, cheesy, delicious potatoes.

“This is so good! Seriously, how can you cook like this?! Please feed me all the time” I said after taking a few bites.

He laughed as he put down his fork, “Well, I worked at a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse for a couple of years before college so I learned a lot of their recipes and mastered the art of cooking the perfect steak” He said as he winked.

That explained it.

“Mastered is right!” I said back.

After dinner, I tried to help clean up the dishes but Matt refused and shooed me away. He told me to try and find something for us on Netflix to watch.

I walked into the basement and started scrolling through the Netflix options. Just as I settled on the movie Gone Baby, Gone, Matt came walking down the stairs with our wine glasses which he had topped up.

“An amazing home cooked dinner, wine, and planting our asses on the couch to watch a movie? This is honestly my ideal night” I said to him as he sat next to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

“Me too” He said as he smiled and kissed me quickly, “I figured you might want a relaxing night in.”

“Thank you, for everything tonight you are so sweet” I replied.

We started to pick up where we had left off before dinner and were like a couple of teenagers making out fiercely on the couch. Within a few minutes, both of our shirts were off and I could feel how hard he was against my leg.

He stopped and as he was leaning over me he asked, “Do you want to go up to my room?”

I just nodded as I rushed to grab my shirt off the floor.

“Are you sure? I don’t want to rush you or anything or have you think I planned tonight just to ge-“

I cut him off by putting my hand over his mouth, “Matt, I want to. You’ve been nothing but a gentleman so I would never think you’re rushing me” I said before taking my hand off and kissing him on the lips.

Surreal

Since we had all had such an emotionally draining night, we decided sleep would be the best thing for everyone.

Josh had insisted on staying on the couch in Kate’s hospital room. They wanted to keep her overnight (understandably) and he didn’t want to leave her by herself. Usually the hospital wouldn’t allow this but since her parents weren’t around, they said it would be fine. I knew I would need to stay a few days so I called the closest hotel and booked a room.

Josh hadn’t called her parents because he knew they were at their vacation home in Florida and didn’t want them panicking before he got all the info from the doctors.

“They need to know. They are going to freak out either way, the sooner they know the better.” I said to him. I was getting ready to leave and we were standing outside Kate’s room since she had drifted back to sleep.

He looked like a mess and I knew that it wouldn’t be a fun phone call to make, so I offered to take care of it.

He looked relieved and sighed, “Would you mind? Thank you so much, I mean it doesn’t sound good getting a call from your daughter’s boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend, whatever we are, saying she’s in the hospital because of drugs…”

“You just focus on keeping an eye on Kate overnight, and getting yourself some sleep” I said as I hugged him goodbye. "And do me a favour? Keep that Jozie girl away I don't think she should be around Kate right now."

He nodded, “Thanks Sarah, are you okay getting to your hotel?”

“Oh yeah, according to my phone it’s only about a 5 minute drive” I answered.

Once I got back into my car, I lost all composure and I pulled up my parents’ home number. Katelyn was like a second daughter to them and they were friends with her parents so they would want to know.

My mom answered on the fifth ring in a panic. I think any parent that gets a phone call after midnight has a mini heart attack before answering.

I started crying harder as I told her everything, barely being able to form proper sentences.

After she had gotten over her questions about Kate she asked if I had talked to her parents.

“No, Josh said they’re in Florida. I told him I would handle it. I was gunna wait till the morning since it’s after 2 am there. I don’t think there’s a point in worrying them in the middle of the night, it’s not like they can get a flight at this time anyways…”

“Oh sweetie, you don’t need any more stress. I’ll call Bill and Cindy tomorrow and tell them, I know I have their number down in Florida somewhere in my contacts. It might be better coming from another parent.” She said. Just hearing my mom’s voice comforted me more than anything. I think it goes hand in hand with being sick and still wanting your mom to take care of you.

She asked where I was going to be staying and how long. I told her a few days, at least until Kate’s parents got there but that I would be able to manage being away from school since I had my laptop and could work on assignments if need be.

We said our goodbyes and I love you’s and she insisted I text her address and phone number of the Radisson hotel I’d be staying.

I quickly copy and pasted the address and phone number from their website and texted it to my mom.

I know I should have called Matt to let him know what was going on, but it was so late and I didn’t need him worrying about me so I decided to wait until morning before texting him.

I felt like a zombie by the time I shuffled my worn down self into the hotel to check in. I gave the girl at the front desk my last name and went to pull out my I.D and credit card.

“Oh, Ms. Parker your room has already been paid for and a credit card was left for any incidentals” She said with a cheery smile on her face.

My mom had obviously called the hotel right away and told them to put it on her credit card. I felt a bit better knowing that she was still taking care of me, even if she couldn’t be here.

When I got up to my room I quickly brushed my teeth, washed my face, and changed into pajamas. I was asleep within minutes, and didn’t wake until the next morning when my phone was going off.

I didn’t get it in time but it was my mom, and she left a voicemail saying she got a hold of Bill and Cindy and they were taking a flight that morning back home. She said they were very panicked, but she did her best to let them know Kate was going to be okay and we were all there to support her.

After listening to the voicemail, I looked through my messages, all from the girls, asking how things were. I answered all of them and then tried calling Matt.

It went to voicemail, so I left a lengthy message explaining everything, trying to sound as calm as possible.

I showered, got dressed, and made my way over to the hospital, picking up coffee and muffins along the way.

Kate looked much better than she did the night before and her and Josh were sitting on her bed watching something on his laptop.

“Hey guys” I said softly as I walked into the room. I still felt like there was tension from the night before.

“Sar-bear!!” Katelyn said brightly.

She turned to Josh, lightly touched his shoulder and asked, “Can you give us a few minutes alone?”

“Yeah, sure. I’ll go get some air” He said back and smiled.

I handed him a coffee and blueberry muffin as he walked by and mouthed “thank you” to him.

Once he left, Kate and I were alone in her room and I stood awkwardly, not knowing what to say. She patted her bed, where Josh had been sitting so I went over and sat down.

When she looked me in the eyes, I could see they were already filling with tears before she even spoke, so I decided to talk first.

“Look, I’m sorry with how I reacted but you scared the shit out if me,” I was going for the tough love approach, “Before I even hear you out I want one promise.”

She nodded, as if she already knew what I was going to say.

“You keep your promise about getting help, and you finish the program. You know I will be there for you 100% but you need to be in it 100% too, okay?” I said, feeling like a mom talking to their kid.

“I promise. I’ll go. I can’t lose you, or Josh. I just – I’m so sorry that I put you guys through this, it was selfish.”

“We were just so worried; you weren’t acting like yourself…” I grabbed her hand and we lay on her bed just sitting in silence. It was a nice, comfortable silence though.

I told her my mom had called her parents and that they were taking a flight that afternoon. She was scared about what her parents would do but I told her that she needs their support in this and that they are more concerned than angry.

“So, what happens with you and Josh now?” I asked. I knew they had broken up because of this all but it was obvious that they were both very much in love with each other.

“I have no clue, I’m so confused on it. I want to be with him, but I don’t know if he will forgive me. I did a lot of stupid shit Sarah, and I hurt him bad.”

“Just give him some time. He wants you to get better and be back to yourself. He loves you, I know that. Even if you can’t be together like you were, I know he will stay in your life as your friend.”

She smiled weakly when I said this, and grabbed Josh’s laptop from the foot of the bed where she had pushed it.

“Sex and the city marathon?” She asked. I think she was just trying to make things as normal as possible.

I nodded and smiled at her. Josh came back a bit later and we spent the rest of the morning hanging out, watching TV and talking. It felt like we were back in high school and a part of me wished we could have done that for days and not had to deal with reality, but that’s not how life works.

Kate’s parents arrived at the hospital around 4 in the afternoon. We wanted to give them their privacy so Josh and I went down to the cafeteria to get some coffee.

I excused myself to step outside to call my mom. I told her Bill and Cindy got there and everything was looking a bit better. I kept our call quick and just wanted to keep her updated since she was worrying. I told her that I was planning on heading back to school the next day. Now that Kate’s parents were here, I felt okay leaving.

The next call I made was to Matt. I noticed that he had tried calling me twice since I left him a voicemail.

He answered after the second ring and sounded relieved that I called.

I told him everything I had left out of the voicemail and told him I would be driving back the next day.

He kept asking me if there was anything he could do or if I needed anything, but I politely declined and said I was okay, just tired and shaken up.

Since I was driving back early in the morning, we had planned to grab dinner and possibly look through some costume stores. I was hell bent on going out as a foursome with Aleah and her new guy Chase, and I didn’t want to wait until the last minute and end up with a lame costume.

After Kate had had some time with her parents, Josh and I made our way back up to her room where they were sitting together with Dr. Fantini talking to them all.

They had decided on admitting Katelyn to Start Fresh Treatment in Omaha. Her parents would also be getting counselling on dealing with a loved one with substance abuse. It felt like a small weight had been lifted to see her getting help.

Katelyn was released shortly after and was heading back to her parents house until the next day when they would take her to the treatment centre. We were all in the parking lot ready to go our separate ways. I was going back to the hotel for the night and then heading out early the next morning, and Josh was driving back to his place.

When we were saying our goodbyes I got emotional again as Kate hugged me.

She was crying too and said to me, “I’m so sorry, you are my best friend in the whole world and it means everything that you came out here. I love you.”

“I love you too, and I would do anything for you. I just want you to be back to your self. Call me if you need anything, or just want to talk.”

I hugged both of per parents and Josh, and heading back to the hotel for the night.

As I was falling asleep that night, I couldn’t help but think of how this kind of thing can happen to anyone. I never thought I would see someone I loved sitting in a hospital bed due to a reaction to drugs, but I did feel a sense of relief knowing that she not only promised to get help, but seemed like she really did want to get better.

E.R

At almost midnight, I pulled up to the hospital Josh had given me directions to. He had told me on the phone that Katelyn’s friend found her passed out in her room and called an ambulance and they rushed her to the E.R.

She was awake but groggy, Josh had said when I called saying I was 5 minutes away and gave me the room she was in.

I ran in with my heart pounding and make up stained tears all down my face.

She was asleep when I got in and Josh was sitting on the couch, along with a girl I had never met. He looked like he had been up all night – his eyes were completely bloodshot, heavy bags under his eyes and his face was blotchy.

I gave him a hug and immediately started bawling my eyes out.

“It’s okay,” he said quietly. “She’s going to be okay.”

Just then a doctor walked in with her chart in her hand.

“Hi, I’m Dr. Fantini, it looks like your friend here had a severe allergic reaction to methamphetamine.” She said while still looking down at the chart.

“As in.. meth?!” I asked, shocked.

I knew things were bad, but meth? I should have come sooner, the minute I knew something was wrong. My stomach was twisted in a knot and I felt like I was going to throw up.

“Yes, she didn’t have the quantity in her to have me concerned of an overdose but the allergic reaction she had could have killed her if no one found her.”

The other girl in the room started crying loudly and Josh walked over to comfort her.

Dr. Fantini turned to me and pulled me aside slightly, “Do you know if this is a frequent thing for Katelyn? We usually only see this severe of an allergic reaction with a first time user.”

I was still crying but tried to talk anyways, “Well, um, I dunno really what’s been going on…I go to school at U of N so we don’t see each other a lot” I sniffed, “But her boyfriend told me she has been having some issues with drugs after I noticed her acting weird when she visited me. And a friend of mine thought she saw her buying something off someone at this bar we were at” I said and started sobbing more.

I know Josh said she would be okay but seeing her lying in a hospital bed like that, and knowing I should have done something sooner, I just couldn’t handle my emotions.

“Look, often times an addict’s family and friends have no idea how far down they really are until something like this happens. You can’t blame yourself. Katelyn made the decision to use drugs, all you can do it try and make her realize she needs help.” Dr. Fantini said as she touched my shoulder to comfort me.

“I’m going to go and get you some pamphlets of a few different places that could help Katelyn. There are some really great facilities that are geared towards young women like her.”

“Thank you” I said as I sniffled again.

Dr. Fantini left the room and Josh was still trying to comfort the other girl, I assumed the friend who had found Kate. She was still sleeping so I stepped outside to answer some messages. I had sent a group text to the girls letting them know where I was and I had heard it go off a number of times on my drive up so I didn’t want them worrying.

Maddie: OMG!! Sarah are you okay? Is Katelyn okay?!

Aleah: Are you serious? I’m so sorry, what can I do? I can come up there, just let me know where you are I can get in my car right away!

2 missed calls from Elena

Elena: Are you okay?! Oh my god is Katelyn okay what happened?!

Aleah: Sarah, what hospital are you at I’m coming to meet you.

I called Aleah since I knew her and Maddie would be up together. I explained everything and told them that they didn’t need to come up here, I was okay – just shaken up, and Katelyn would be okay. They both still insisted on coming up but I told them it was way too late and I would probably stay a few days and I know they both had crazy busy schedules and couldn’t ask that of them.

Before saying goodbye I thanked them, and told them I loved them for being so sweet.
I made a similar quick call to Elena before a nurse scolded me for being on my phone, so I slipped back into the room.

When I got in Katelyn was awake and her and Josh looked like they had been arguing.
The second I saw her awake, I felt this burst of anger inside of me that I couldn’t control, it just came out like an explosion. Like I said, I just couldn’t handle my emotions.

I walked over to the bed, fuming and crying again. She looked frightened of me. “Jesus Christ Katelyn, METH!?! What the hell are you doing?! You had us all scared to death! YOU COULD HAVE DIED! Do you even get that? If no found you, you would have DIED!”
I know it was childish the way I reacted but I couldn’t control it.

She was red faced and crying “I’m – so- sorry” she tried to blurt out in between cry’s. “ I didn’t know, I honestly didn’t know. Some guy at this party asked if I wanted to do a line so we went up to the bathroom and did a couple bumps. I felt really dizzy and he just smirked and told me I was going to have the best high of my life”

She looked down at her hands and started crying harder. “ I just thought it was coke!  He told me afterwards that it was cut with meth. I would have never done it if I had known..”

Josh stood up “And you think COKE is any better? Do you not see what you’re doing to yourself?! You have a problem Katie. This isn’t just going out and having a good time at a party. Your taking fucking heavy drugs with a complete stranger!”

Although he was yelling, I could tell he was more upset and worried than anything. His face was full of concern and his hands were shaking.

“Okay enough of the ganging up on Katelyn party! I’m not an addict!” She shouted back, now looking on the defensive. “Yeah so what, I’ve done the odd line of coke at a party it’s not like I went seeking out meth. I would never do that shit!”

I felt my anger bubble up again, but before I could say anything, the other girl stood up and ran to Katelyn’s side and started hugging her.

“How can you two yell at her right now?! Have some sympathy” She looked at Josh and I like we were monsters.

“Okay, I don’t know who you are but Katelyn is my best friend, and all I care about is her well-being, she needs a wake up call! And obviously needs to stay away from people like you who are going to enable her problem!” I shouted at the girl.

Thankfully Josh intervened, “Jozie, why don’t you go and let your other friends know Katie’s fine, ok? I think Sarah and I should talk to her alone.” He said calmly. Josh was the type who rarely got angry, and even when he did, it faded quickly.

She looked down at Katelyn who looked at me and Josh, and almost looked ashamed for a moment. “I’ll be fine” she said to Jozie, who got up to leave, but not without narrowing her eyes and shooting me a dirty look.

I took a deep breath and mentally reminded myself that this was not my best friend. She was not herself, but she needed us and she needed help. I was not going to let her ruin her life with something like this.

I sat on her bed and took her hand. I could feel it was shaking.

“Kate, you need help. Josh is right – this is way beyond being a “party girl” or just going out and having fun. This is scary shit. And your not yourself, I wouldn’t say this if I wasn’t seriously worried.”

“I know” she started bawling. “I’m so sorry, I don’t even know what I’m doing. I haven’t felt like myself in so long. I’m so sorry.” She sniffled and I hugged her hard, the two of us crying.

Josh was sitting on the chair beside her bed, holding her hand.

“Your doctor said she would tell us about some places you can get help. You have to tell me you will go. You have to. You have to promise me you will go Katie.” Josh begged to her.
Dr. Fantini must have had the same conversation with Josh. I was glad he said it because I was at a complete loss with this. It was way over my head and knew she needed professional help.

She sighed, looked down at her hands again and nodded, “Okay, your right. I know your right.” She sobbed, “I’m so sorry I did this to you guys” She said as she embraced us both in a hug.

Good times and bad

**Thank you everyone for your comments! Mexico was amazing but I really wish I had remembered my laptop, I wanted to get more writing done :( Work was crazy after being away for 10 days so I'm sorry this is late, but better late then never! Have a great weekend readers! :)

After spending the night at Matt’s house, he dropped me off at my car and kissed me goodbye. I had this sense of comfort and familiarity with him that I couldn’t explain. I knew I wouldn’t be able to see him much throughout the week since I was going to be very busy with school and had quite a few shifts at the restaurant so I was really glad our impromptu night of drinks went well.

As I expected, the week flew by and before I knew it, we were at the football game, bopping around between the various tailgaters.

“Thanks again for bringing me!” I beamed to Aleah. I loved the atmosphere of these games. Everyone was always so cheerful and I loved seeing people dress up in their jerseys, home-made t-shirts and face paint.

“No problem!” She said as she linked her arm through mine and kept walking.
Matt joined us for a bit during the game and we spent the rest of the day talking, laughing, and drinking cheap beer. It was the perfect day, followed by a perfect night with my best girlfriends.

Our girl’s night was exactly how we did all of our other girl’s nights in the past. We tried doing them about once a month, even when Elena was still living with us because with all of our busy schedules we don’t get a lot of time to hang out as a group.

We had a tradition of trying something new off of Pinterest for every girls night, and we took turns on who got to pick and make the new thing. This time it was Elena and she had found a recipe for a vodka-soaked fruit platter.

Yep. That’s a real thing. And it was amazing.

“My god woman, you are a genius!” I said to Elena as I was eating my fourth piece of vodka soaked watermelon.  After the cheap beer at the game, mixed with the yummy treat of the evening, it was safe to say I was on my way to drunk-town if I didn’t get some food in me.
I suggested we order Thai and everyone agreed. Once we settled in with our plates and girly drinks (complete with tiny umbrellas that Elena found at the dollar store), we put on a Friends DVD and caught each other up on everything going on.

It was a great night but pretty soon we were all feeling pretty tired. Elena had decided to host the night since she had a house now and we would have felt pretty awkward having a girls night with all of us at our place with Nellie there. She had set up the cutest area in her basement full of pillows and oversized comforters. We were 4 girls in our pajamas, lying in a giant fort of blankets – we were having a full blown slumber party and I felt like I was 12 years old again…I loved it.
The next day we were all doing typical Sunday things – laundry, homework, grocery shopping etc – when I texted Matt to see if he wanted to grab an early dinner that night.
M: Would love to! Told Kim we could get together tonight, is it cool if she comes?

Ugh, I had briefly forgotten about her and I couldn’t think of anything more miserable than having to have sit through dinner with her. But, I had texted him so I couldn’t necessarily say I had other plans, so I tried a different way of avoiding it.

S: You guys haven’t seen each other in a while, if you had plans I don’t want to butt in, you two should catch up we can hang out another night! :)

My phone buzzed.

M: Just texted her, she said she would love it if all 3 of us could have dinner, she wants to get to know you! It’ll be fun and I would love to see you, I can pick you up around 7?

What the hell was she playing at? I could tell by the way she looked at me that she certainly did not have any interest in getting to know me. I felt like I had no other choice since Matt knew I was free.

I can suck it up for one dinner, I thought.

S: Sure, sounds good see you then!

While I was getting ready I had texted Katelyn I had to go to dinner with the crazy chick from the salon.

She called me right when I sent it.

“What the hellllll? Why did you agree to go to dinner with that chick?” She shrieked into the phone, half-laughing.

“I asked him to hang out first so he knew I wasn’t busy so I couldn’t really say no when he suggested all 3 of us go to dinner!” I said, irritated.

“Well, shit that sucks! Don’t let that bitch mess with your head, she seems manipulative as fuck.” Kate said.

I knew then she was likely half cut because she always swore a lot when she was drinking.

“Yeah, I’m gunna try to keep it short, I definitely don’t get a good vibe off her, and she was so rude to that receptionist! But, I dunno maybe she was having a bad day, I should try to be nice for Matt’s sake.  Anyways, how are you? You still up for me coming up next weekend?”

We had texted about me coming to visit her, I wanted to see how bad her situation is right now and I needed to talk to her about everything but it had to be face to face.

“Duh! I’m so excited! I got us tickets to this thing on Saturday!” She said, excitedly.

“Okay cool I’ll probably get there around 9 on Friday night. What kind thing, like a concert?” I asked.

“Well, there’s music” she laughed, “but more like a big party, its kinda like a rave, but it’ll be fun! And it’s a tight and bright theme so bring something bright to wear!”

“That’s really not my kinda scene Kate, you know I’m not a big partier and I’ve heard those rave things go all night and all morning.” I said.

First of all, that was true, a rave was the last thing on my list of fun things to do. Second, I knew that I would just be on edge and feeling like a babysitter going to something like that with Katelyn.

“Oh come onnnnnn grandma!” She whined. “It’ll be fun and I already bought the tickets. If you don’t like it once we’re there we can leave. Promise” She said.

I sighed, at least she gave me that so if she got out of hand I’ll remind her she promised we could leave.

“Okay, deal. But you stick to your word! Anyways I should go, Matt will be here any minute”
“Kay, have fun, or try, and I’ll text you this week so we can figure everything out for the weekend” She said.

We said goodbye just as I heard the buzzer to the apartment.

I went down and Matt was standing at the door, Kim was sitting in the truck.

“Hey! You look great!” He said as he wrapped me in a hug and then kissed me intensely. Part of me was glad that we had this hot kiss right in front of Kim after the way she acted all territorial over Matt. He smelled of good cologne and a fresh shower and I immediately felt my mood lighten when he hugged me.

We went to a Greek restaurant, about 15 minutes away from my apartment, which I had never been to.

It was fairly small on the inside, but had very nice and authentic décor.

“This place is so nice, I haven’t even heard of it!” I said to Matt.

Just then, Kim linked her arm through mine and said, “Oh, Sarah, what kind of tour guide for Matty are you if you don’t even know the best Greek restaurant in town?” She said in a patronizing tone as she giggled.

What the fuck?!  I thought to myself. She was trying to act like my new bestie while simultaneously throwing a jab.

The next 2 hours passed painfully slow.

Kim made sure she spent the majority of the evening bringing up passed stories which I obviously couldn’t have any input on because they all involved people and memories that I didn’t know. She was deliberately travelling down memory lane with Matt to make me feel left out, and I know I wasn’t just being paranoid.

Every so often she would look up at me in the eyes as she was telling a story and she had a look that told me she was trying t push me, and also let me know her place.

Anytime she did try and include me in the conversation, it would be in a way that would allow her to throw a subtle shot my way.

Comments like, “Aw you waitress? That’s so cute, I wish my job was that easy!” and then laugh a little so she came off as breezy.

She was like a dog peeing on a fire hydrant.

By the time dinner was over, I wanted nothing more than to go home, shower and go to bed.
Matt must’ve noticed that I was being overly quiet, and as we were getting up to leave the restaurant he put his hand on the small of my back and quietly asked, “You ok? You don’t seem yourself tonight”

I turned and forced a smile, “I’m all good! Just overly tired from last night probably” I said, and tried my best to not make my cheeks flush, which they always did when I lied.

Even though Kim’s hotel was way closer to Matt’s place than my apartment, he dropped her off first, which I thought was sweet because it meant he wanted to spend at least a little time just the two of us.

We had a goodnight kiss and I went upstairs to the apartment.

I was lying in bed, and was having a hard time falling asleep. I was anxious about the following weekend and had spent the night being subtly put down by some psycho chick with an agenda I couldn’t figure out.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, my phone vibrated on the night stand.
It was Josh.

J: Call me as soon as you can, Kate’s in the hospital.
